8 TIPS TO HELP GET YOUR POOL SWIM READY

There are many reasons that we always encourage pool owners to open their pool early; the main one being is to avoid opening a green pool! Lovely warm days create ripe conditions for algae, and they love it!

Here are 8 proven tips to help get your pool swim-ready in the least amount of time:

1 / BE PATIENT
Be aware. Your pool will not be swim ready the very day it is opened! The water has been dormant for several months, and it is just not safe.

2 / KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR SYSTEM
Check your filter system each day for the first several days providing routine cleaning. Clean the filter daily, pump basket, and automatic vacuuming system.

3 / RUN FILTER SYSTEM 24 HOURS
Run your filter system 24 hours a day, at least for the first month after start-up.

4 / CHECK & EMPTY SKIMMER BASKETS FREQUENTLY
Check the skimmer baskets & clean them out as frequently as you can!

5 / DON'T SKIMP ON CHEMICALS
Especially chlorine. Your pool will need a great deal of oxidation to deal with the accumulation of several months of no-filtration. Keep your chlorine level in the 2 to 3 ppm range for a couple of weeks after the initial start-up.

6 / CHECK CYANURIC ACID LEVEL
Now is a good time to check your Cyanuric Acid level in your pool. Cyanuric Acid is added to many of the chlorine products as a stabilizing slow-release agent to your chlorine, which is good, but too much of a good thing, in this case, can be bad. Over time the Cyanuric level will rise and negate the effectiveness of the chlorine. Diluting the Cyanuric to a level below 100 ppm will ensure the effectiveness of your chlorine.

7 / BRUSH YOUR POOL DAILY
Initially, assist your filtration system by brushing your pool daily to force debris into the water. Or, buy a robotic pool cleaner that will do just this as well as vacuum the pool surface.

8 / TEST YOUR WATER
